2022 Highlights: Looking back on another year of Parker Press

Updated: May 14, 2023

This has been quite the year of Parker Press! In 2022 we had 1,078 unique visitors–a 16% increase from last year–and 2,225 site sessions, a 21% increase from last year.

That is, all thanks to our 22 individual content contributors this year, and our editors too of course.

Overall we had a great variety of content from opinion pieces to photos series, and highlights of national/global news to continued coverage of school-wide events.

Parker Press leadership would like to recognize Bethany Stimac, who has published poetry every posting this year and Kai Kualii, who has consistently continued his Life, Death, Tacos, and Hot Pockets comic series which now has 22 parts!

Thank you to all our writers who have shared their passions with Parker Press readers all while covering the latest happenings within our school community and around the world.

In this devastatingly vulnerable commentary, Noe discusses “the significance of queerness” in the context of self-reflection and “two major factors: materialism and community.” Whether the reader personally resonates with the opinions and experiences explored in this piece or not, it will tug at their heart strings all while making them think nonetheless.

This is an homage to Ms. Smith, an English teacher who left at the end of the 2021-22 school year after teaching at Parker for 6 years. To say that Ms. Smith had a profound impact on every student she taught at Parker would be an understatement, as her radiance and passion for teaching was simply infectious.

We miss you Ms. Smith!

Beginning with an anecdotal scene that leaves the reader wondering what will happen next, this article has the perfect combination of background information/summary and evocative commentary. Noe has a distinctively magical way of weaving powerful language throughout her writing. Every sentence is crisp and clear, all while taking the reader on a wild roller coaster ride.

The process for writing this article began with the desire to understand. It began with the intent to clarify the months of confusion that had been proliferating within the student body–to provide answers to the plethora of accumulating questions. Multiple interviews and discussions between administrators, students, and teachers went into creating an article that aimed to provide an explanation along with a clear timeline of the shift in the grading approach, “Starting with clarity from the very beginning…”

On behalf of everyone involved, Parker Press would like to thank our readers for their continued support this year. We appreciate you all so much and we can’t wait to see what next year will bring! Happy Holidays, and have an amazing New Year!
