Back to the 20s: Parker School's 2022 Prom

Written by Isabella Russo and Ava Taylor

On April 16th, we had our first prom off campus since COVID-19. It took place at the Hapuna Prince Hotel in a big ballroom. This prom was also special because we were allowed to take off our masks and see each other's faces. The theme of the 2022 Parker Prom was the ‘Roaring 20s’ and also inspired by the Great Gatsby.

The Ballroom

The day of prom, everybody was required to take a rapid test before arrival. After students and guests checked in, they walked down a red carpet, where above hung strings of crystal-bead decor. Smoke from a smoke machine rolled out onto the walkway. After walking down the carpet to the entrance of the ballroom, you were greeted by a sea of people and tables all set for dinner. The centerpieces on the tables captured the essence of the 20s with a chocolate bar on each plate for a student. The chocolate bar had wrappers with the inscription “Parker School Prom 2022” with a Great Gatsby-like design.

The DJ in one corner of the room and the photographers in the other. After the majority of people had arrived, everybody sat down for dinner. The hotel served two courses, with the highlight being some amazingly delicious mashed potatoes. They started with a tomato bisque followed by chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. After dinner there was a beautiful dessert bar that had a large selection of personal desserts that guests could enjoy throughout the night. These included mini cheesecakes, chocolate lava cakes, hapia, and mac nut tarts.

Guests enjoyed music, danced, took photos, and caught up with people they have not seen in awhile all throughout the night. At the 2 hour mark, the long-awaited 2022 Prom court was announced. Count and Countess (Freshmen) were Liam Little ‘25 and Gibson McIntosh ‘25, Duke and Duchess were Ava Pajinag ‘24 and Ian Dugan ‘24, Prince and Princess were Kekoa Madison ‘23 and Molly Krystal ‘23, and Prom King and Queen were Violet Freeney ‘22 and Owen Leonard ‘22.

The night overall was a success. It was so much fun and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Great job to the Juniors for putting this amazing prom together. Thank you to the DJs’, juniors, photographers, chaperones, and hotel staff for a memorable night!
