Track and field is done for 2024! This season was an absolute success. Despite this being the first track team in quite a while, it was an excellent first season for many of our athletes.
This season was full of PRs (personal records), and some awesome development for everyone. Some of the biggest highlights from the year came at the BIIF championship. Under the hot Kealakehe sun, Isabel Camp and Kai Garcia-Tobar, both sophomores, qualified for the finals in the 1500 meters! One of the hardest races, the 1500 comes just short of a mile. These two pushed themselves so hard and ended up placing really well. Isabel PRed by 10 seconds, and placed 7th, and Kai placed 11th. Kai also competed in the finals of the 3,000 meters, another incredibly difficult race, and placed 9th with another PR. After her race, Isabel said, “Getting sunburned and then running is like making mashed potatoes and roasting the potatoes but then they fall off the counter and onto the floor.” Kennedi-Grace Magaoay also made it to the Top Eight in shot put, placing 5th overall, with a new PR and school record of 29 ft 4 in!
This season was not just marked by the championship, however. Some major Parker School records were set throughout the season! Kennedi-Grace Magaoay now holds the record for shot put and discus. Isabel Camp holds the girls 1500-meter record, and Gibson McIntosh holds the 400-meter record. Sophia Scholz now holds the record for the 100 meters and the 200 meters. Our girls 4x100 meter relay team of Sophia, Laynie, Isabel, and Nisha also holds the school record in their event!
Track and field is awesome! We all recommend you come out and join us! The more people we have, the more points we can score! To encourage you to join, Kai says, “Running track this year was a great decision. I've seen everyone on the team improve in both their feelings about running and their times, which has motivated me both inside and outside the track. I hope the team continues and grows going into the next year since having more people at meets helps with the boredom while waiting three hours for your event.”
