From the first serve of the season to the final point on October 22nd, the Parker Girls Volleyball team has been unstoppable. In fact, the team secured the BIIF championship on Wednesday in a gripping five-set matchup against rival HPA. With this victory, the team earned its goal of a championship banner and gold medals, extending its perfect-record season to 16-0. This team continues to set unprecedented milestones for Parker School and Big Island Volleyball as a whole.

Going back, Parker entered the BIIF tournament with a strategic advantage, receiving two byes in both the first and second rounds due to their strong, undefeated regular-season performance. This allowed the team to advance directly to the semifinals, where they faced Pahoa at the Smart Center Gym on October 20th. In a four-set match against a team they hadn’t faced yet this season, the girls displayed precise execution, strong communication, unity, and consistency to secure their spot in the championship match.

Two days later, the final against HPA at Kea’au High School was a back-and-forth battle. HPA had beaten 3 other teams to win their spot in the championship against Parker. Both teams exchanged momentum multiple times, delivering hard-hitting attacks, strong blocks, quick defensive plays, and consistent serving. Set scores were as follows: Set 1, Parker 25-13; Set 2, Parker 25-18; Set 3, HPA 25-20; Set 4, HPA 28-26; Set 5, Parker 15-6. As shown by the nail-biting scores, Parker ultimately won in that decisive fifth set, demonstrating the girls’ ability to perform in high-pressure situations and showcasing the depth of talent across the entire roster.

Amid the excitement of the championship and the thrill of competing at States, it’s impossible not to pause and reflect on our seniors. For them, this will be their last season, and they’ll be deeply missed next year, but the team is making every moment count. Senior Mailhana Jara-Hess reflected on the significance of the season for the four seniors - herself, Takarrah Presley, Sophia Scholz, and Adalyn Ballard - who, along with the rest of the team, have been achieving long-standing goals during their final year. “It was really special for the entire team, including us seniors,” she shared. “For us, this will be the last time. We won’t have a next season, so we have to make each second count. This year so far has been such a great time together.” Even as the seniors prepare to close this chapter after next week, their energy, leadership, and the bonds they’ve formed will be remembered long after the final whistle. Beyond the seniors, every player’s dedication, hard work, and teamwork were crucial to Parker’s success so far this season. The entire roster played a role in this unforgettable year, and the season isn’t over yet!

The 2025 season has already been filled with historic moments. From significant victories over longstanding rivals to a flawless record through both the regular season and tournament play, the team has continually raised the standard for Big Island volleyball. Their preparation since the summer and strong teamwork have been on full display in every match. These achievements have energized the school and community, and that momentum will carry them as they head to Oahu.

Next week, the team turns its focus to the State tournament during Halloween week. Looking back, many of the girls shared their goals for the 2025 season: not only winning the BIIF banner but also advancing to States for the second year in a row. Now that both of these goals have been achieved, the girls are aiming for a strong performance at the State Tournament. Last year, the team placed second in BIIF and, unfortunately lost their first match at States. This year, however, with their perfect-record season intact and the BIIF championship secured, the girls are ready to compete at the next level with the goal of building on their previous success. Regardless of the outcome, this season has already left a lasting mark on Parker Volleyball, and the team is well-positioned to make history once again.
