The Day Before Yesterday

The day before yesterday,

I woke

to a room

empty of your name.

The air was thick

with the weight

of unspoken things–

quiet

as the space between breaths,

still

as the shadows on the wall.

The day before yesterday,

I held

your absence like a secret,

wondering

if you missed me

or if I was just a ghost

in your past.

Though I knew

I should let go,

I still caught myself

reaching

for the place

where you used to be.
