Grain-Sized Brains

A frog suspended

on the tension of the pond

        where water and skin

            exhibit their bonds.

                Does it know

from a tadpole it did grow?

Or a snake,

has appreciation dawned?          For the grass, of which

there is much to be fond?

                Maybe it slithers ungraciously

                    through the green blades.

I also think of salamanders.

Might they know the workings of their body

with all their slippery veins?             Oh, the wonder of

                grain-sized brains.
