Eco Club and the Sophomores Band Together to Bring Back the Garden

This Sunday, Eco Club teamed with 10th grade STUCO and the Sophomore class to initiate an ambitious task: reviving our school garden.

Our sophomore STUCO president, Elwin, and Vice President, Acacia, presented the sophomore student council with the intention to plan community service activities for the 10th grade class. Emily Atkins and I, Isabella Russo, founders and leaders of Eco Club, saw this as an opportunity to initiate our goal of restoring the garden.

On Sunday the 26th, we began this project with the help of Uncle Eric and Ms. Mannion. The work we did mostly consisted of cutting and pulling the gnarliest, most stubborn grass you can think of out of the ground. Some of this was done by hand, some by machine.

Sophomores clear the grass with sickles.

We were able to plant some plants and trees and uncover the seeding table, along with a lot of random items such as tools, balls, pots, and rocks.

While we accomplished a lot, there is still so much to do. We can’t wait to see how far we get and what our garden could flourish into!

Thank you to everyone who showed up this Sunday to help with this grueling task in high spirits nonetheless. We really appreciate your help! We would like to give a special thanks to Uncle Eric, who gave us great advice and knowledge and helped us out on Sunday. We would also like to thank Ms. Mannion, Eco Club’s teacher advisor, and her family, who were there all day to pitch in and supervise us!

Once again, thank you to everyone who made this possible!
