Parker's Track and Field Team Takes the Season by Storm

With spring sports well underway, it is definitely time for an update on one of Parker’s newer spring Sports: Track and Field. Ava Harris, Laynie Henderson, and Kennedi-Grace Magaoay have been competing in shot put and discus these past few weeks, doing very well at their first few meets!

On March 25th, they traveled to HPA for their first meet. Starting with shot put, Kennedi made it to the finals and ended up placing 5th at her very first meet. Ava placed in 11th, and Laynie came in 15th out of around 20 competitors. Later that afternoon, they competed in discus, with Laynie making it to the finals, and placing in 7th place! Kennedi placed 16th and Ava placed 19th. For their very first meet, things went very well.

The following weekend, April 1st, they went back to HPA. Some new personal records were set, and spirits were high. Kennedi and Laynie made it to the finals in both shot and disc, with Kennedi tying for 3rd in shot, placing 4th in disc, setting a new personal best for disc, and throwing personal best distances in both categories. She had a 25 foot, 11 inch shot throw, and a 67 foot, 9 inch disc throw. Laynie placed 8th in both events, with a 63 foot, 2 inch disc throw, and a 21 foot, 2 inch personal best throw in shot put. Ava Harris placed 16th in shot put, with a distance of 18 feet, 1 inch and 12th in discus, with a new personal best of 48 feet, 11 inches.

With only a few weeks of practices under their belts, this team is doing super well for their first season! Their next meet will be April 15th at Kealakehe, followed by BIIF championships at the end of the month.
