Ever in the mood for calm, bluesy, or slowly expressive music? If so, the next time you browse your music streaming service, I urge you to look for a jazz playlist. Yes, although jazz music is often seen as old or only played in fancy restaurants, there are many ways jazz music can be entertaining in your daily life!

The very first song I’d recommend to someone is, “Tenderly” by Chet Baker. The song starts off slow, then progressively syncopates into a flowy rhythm. Then, there are additional songs that are well-known on social media. “Quarto de Hotel” (Hareton Salvanini), “I’ll Never Smile Again” (Dorsey, Sinatra, Pipers), “Lujon” (Henry Mancini), and “Can’t We Be Friends” (Sonny Sitt Quartet) are a few songs that were/are currently trending that are worth listening to, to see if you recognize them!

The beauty of jazz music is not only niche but also full of pleasing elements. Many instruments are included, such as piano, saxophone, trombone, guitar, trumpet, drums, jazz violin, double bass, and clarinet. It’d be cool to see a jazz band at school, one day! Usually, most of the instruments played are improvised, which makes jazz a very unique type of music.

Additionally, if you’ve ever felt like you want to lock in and become an academic weapon, jazz music sets the perfect non-lyrical, tranquil vibe. Sometimes, I like to put on jazz music as background music for reading, or when studying for a heavy test, it helps with general focus for any of my assignments.

Here is one of my favorite jazz playlists I've made, which I think is a great one for new listeners: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4P9RNTJqDf024wzELJcqnN?si=e0927c54bd5b4324

Overall, if jazz seems to interest you after reading this, I encourage you to let me know, because I have several more playlists I’d love to share with anybody who agrees with this take!
