Debate Non-Qual Tournament Recap

Parker School debate went to Oahu on November 18th for their first full team tournament of the season. The Kamehameha Non-Qualifying tournament went very well, and the team had an excellent showing! The team arrived at the airport at 5:00am Saturday morning, and prepared themselves for a long day of competition. For many people, this was their first ever tournament!

Novice Lincoln Douglas, a one on one debate format for first year competitors in the category, had 9 entries from Parker, making up more than half the pool. Gibson McIntosh, Sophia Scholz, and Soren Fesel all won a majority of their ballots over the course of the day, and won certificates for superior performance. Angela McDonald, Selah Vigil, Molakai Meister, Vincent Galvan, and Sophia Maia Williams all competed in this category as well, and finished their first tournament!

Championship Lincoln Douglas, or a varsity version of the one on one debate, had 5 entries from Parker, all of whom were competing in Varsity for the first time. Noah Nikolai, Oscar Amos, and Elayna Henderson all won a majority of their ballots, and earned their superior performance certificates for the tournament. Nora Goldsmith and Ethan Schmitt also competed well in the very difficult pool.

Beginning Public Forum, a two on two debate for first year debaters, had three entries from Parker. All Parker teams were competing together for the first time. Congratulations to the teams of Michael Breeze and Joseph Richards, Milo Morrison and Siena Long, and Hana Mahmood and Kinloch Cantrell for their efforts!

Advanced Public Forum, a team debate for varsity teams, had only two Parker entries in attendance. BJ Daoust and Takumi Wetherell, as well as Izzy Russo and Georgia Kaysemeyer did well in their category. 3 out of the 4 debaters were first time varsity competitors.

Congratulations to everyone who participated! Looking forward, several members of the team are headed to Idaho for The Madison Invitational on December 1 and 2. The next full team tournament will be right here at Parker School, right after winter break! Teams from across the state will be welcomed to Waimea for the Neighbor Island State Qualifying tournament. Good luck to the team as they progress throughout the season!
